About 'window lift motor'-What Is the Definition of Bummer








The               Glenspean               Lodge               is               a               small               luxury               hotel               that               was               originally               a               hunting               lodge               for               the               rich               and               famous               in               the               Scottish               highlands.

According               to               the               hotel               website,               it               was               once               part               of               a               large               estate               owned               by               Laird               Macintosh               of               Macintosh,               whose               portrait               hangs               prominently               in               the               hotel               lobby.

During               the               1920's               and               1930's               the               hunting               lodge               was               visited               by               many               well-known               people,               including               King               Edward               VII.

Nowadays               it               is               part               of               the               Best               Western               Hotel               chain,               but               it               is               certainly               not               a               cookie               cutter               property.

It               is               about               12               miles               outside               Fort               William               proper               and               accessible               only               by               motor               vehicle.

Fort               William               is               the               "gateway               to               the               highlands"               and               the               jumping               off               point               for               the               Jacobite               Steam               Train               (also               known               as               the               Harry               Potter               train,               since               it               was               made               famous               in               the               Harry               Potter               films).

Fort               William               is               also               at               the               foot               of               Scotland's               highest               peak               and               a               popular               site               for               hiking               and               skiing-Ben               Nevis.
               Hunting               Lodge               Atmosphere
               The               Lodge               oozes               with               atmosphere,               from               the               crunchy               gravel               driveway               to               the               landscaped               grounds,               the               elegant               lobby,               grand               staircase,               and               fourteen               tastefully               decorated               rooms-each               with               en               suite               facilities.

Our               double               room               had               cream-colored               French               provincial               furniture,               a               window               seat,               and               a               spectacular               view               of               Ben               Nevis.

And               unlike               any               other               hotel               room               we               had               experienced               on               the               trip,               it               was               huge.

The               bed               was               large               and               very               comfortable.

Our               twin               room               was               around               the               corner,               had               only               a               small               window               with               minimal               view               and               was               right               over               the               kitchen.
               The               hotel               website               notes               that               each               room               is               unique,               including               a               turret               room,               several               four               poster               rooms,               and               the               Braveheart               Suite               (an               homage               to               the               Mel               Gibson               movie               filmed               nearby).

When               Edward               VII               stayed               there,               it               must               have               had               a               different               label.
               In               the               lobby,               bar               and               less               formal               restaurant,               dark               wood               and               rich               fabrics               dominate.

The               hunting               lodge               theme               extended               to               some               stuffed               birds               in               glass               cases,               which               I               tried               to               ignore.

The               lodge               prides               itself               on               local               foods               and               has               won               awards.

We               ate               there               only               once               under               rushed               circumstances               so               I               do               not               feel               able               to               comment               on               the               food.

In               fact               we               never               ate               in               the               award-winning               Nevis               View               Restaurant,               which               was               grand,               elegant,               and               empty,               even               on               a               Saturday               evening               in               peak               tourist               season               with               the               hotel               fully               booked.

That               was               a               mystery.
               Other               Amenities
               The               hotel               advertises               itself               as               a               venue               for               weddings               and               receptions               and               indeed               it               would               be               an               atmospheric               backdrop               for               a               Scottish               wedding               with               kilts               and               a               bagpiper.

The               size               of               the               hotel               would               be               perfect               for               housing               the               wedding               party.
               The               hotel               also               has               a               "snookers               room"               (billiards),               a               sauna               and               hot               tub,               and               a               small               fitness               center.

We               did               not               actually               use               any               of               those               facilities.
               One               of               the               few               weaknesses               of               this               hotel               was               the               lack               of               any               elevator               or               lift.

A               person               unable               to               climb               stairs               could               not               be               accommodated.

(I               asked               about               this               and               was               told               it               would               be               prohibitively               expensive               to               retrofit               this               hunting               lodge               with               an               elevator.)
               Service               was               excellent               throughout               our               stay.

It               almost               felt               like               visiting               someone's               (large)               private               home.
               I               would               love               to               stay               at               this               hotel               again               some               day.

If               you               are               in               this               vicinity               and               have               a               rental               car,               you               should               consider               staying               at               the               Glenspean               Lodge.
