About 'windshield wiper motor replacement'-Giant Blue M&M
How do you leave your house or apartment every day for work, school or shopping? You probably hop in your car, turn the key in the ignition, and head out on your way. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that scenario of starting your driving day off. I have five car care tips that will insure that when you do get in your car and get underway, your trip will be safer, uneventful and not filled with stress or disappointment. You don't have to be a trained auto mechanic to perform any of these procedures, and you don't even have to be adept at using any tools - unless you just like the idea of having a screwdriver or socket wrench in your hand to make you feel more like Joe mechanic! And with the color coding done by most auto manufacturers these days, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out where the parts are that I'm going to tell you about. Tip number one - When refueling your car, make sure you put the gas cap back into place and make sure that it is attached securely. If you have someone else pump your gas, don't blindly depend on them to always replace your gas cap properly. If the gas cap is not secured properly, many new fuel systems will not operate correctly and while you may be able to drive away from the service station and get to where you are going, chances are that somewhere down the road, your car is going to start running very poorly and in some cases, not restart after you turn the engine off. Remember, the fuel system is a sealed containment situation that operates most efficiently and correctly when it is sealed properly. And while you're at it, after you check to make sure the gas cap is securely in place, close the little door that covers the gas cap so it is not wide open while you are driving down the road. Tip number two - If you or anyone else has any reason to check the fluid level in your brake system reservoir, be certain that the reservoir cap is attached firmly in place once it is determined that the reservoir is full. I can guarantee you that you do not want to find out the cap is missing or not properly in place while you are driving at highway speeds, and somebody cuts you off causing you to hit your brake pedal! After you nearly put the brake pedal through the floor, tighten your already white knuckled grip on the steering wheel, and suck in one last deep breath while waiting for the impact to occur, you'll be really sorry that you didn't perform the simple, no tools required act of making sure that reservoir cap is properly in place. This is one of the areas where auto manufacturing color coding comes into play. Years ago, all caps located in the engine compartment were black - or chrome if you were a motor head and went to an auto supply store and got chrome replacements - so you had to be careful as to what area you were adding whatever liquid to! All the areas where fluids can be added in my car, have yellow caps with international symbols or recognizable names identifying what fluid gets poured where. Tip number three - Oil and transmission dip sticks need to be "seated" properly and securely in place to prevent those fluids from blowing back out the tubes into which those sticks are placed. If these two internal measuring devices are not properly pushed back into their access tubes after those two fluid levels have been checked, the pressure created within the engine while operating, can easily push oil or transmission fluid back up the dip stick tube and cause it to spray all over your engine. That would create quite a smoke screen to come billowing out of the engine compartment not to mention the delightful fragrance that would be generated from such a mishap. Again, as with the brake fluid reservoir cap, these two devices would have some sort of color coding on them to alert you to their function or use. Tip number four - Visually inspect your windshield wiper blades for wear and tear. if the rubber wiping portion of the blade has nicks in it or is cracked or torn, your windshield will not be adequately cleared when you turn the wipers on. This is not a good situation to be in when you need to see where you are in relation to other traffic on the road! Replacing wiper blades these days is a simple, no tools required procedure for most if not all cars. Most wiper blade refill packs that you can purchase have adapter fittings that allow them to be mounted on virtually any car you could hope to own. There is a suggestion on the packaging the replacement blades come in, that a screwdriver might be needed to perform one of the steps in the removal of the old wiper blades from the mounting arm on your car but I have never found the need to use a screwdriver to accomplish the task. An aside on the topic of windshield wipers - if you have the need to turn your wipers on so you can see what's going on around you, you should turn your lights on as well so that others on the road will be able to see you better. Remember, if you need your windshield wipers operating so you can better see the highway, you should make yourself as visible as possible so other drivers can see you through their sparkling clear, streak free windshield. Tip number five - Every man, woman, child and elected public official, needs to be able to add windshield washer fluid to their vehicle! Next to having wiper blades that are in good condition, this washer fluid is the last line of defense when it comes to having clear vision during sloppy driving conditions. As with other areas in the engine compartment to which you can add fluid, the washer reservoir should have a colored cap and it should have a symbol or depiction of spraying raindrops on it. This is THE simplest thing to do when it comes to insuring that if your windshield gets smeared with road gunk splashing up from the vehicles around you, streaked with a layer of ice on a frigid winter day or plastered with the bodies of a thousand smushed bugs while driving out in the country, when you turn your wipers on and press that little button that sprays the proverbial smurf juice, all that nastiness will be cleared from the windshield and clear driving vision will be restored. One thing to remember, DO NOT just add plain water to the washer fluid reservoir unless you are desperate to have your windshield "washed" and it is summertime. Washer fluid that you can buy anywhere has special additives to prevent it from streaking, add to its cleaning capabilities and most important, not freeze during winter driving conditions when you need it most. In this instance, water - bad, washer fluid - good! There you are, five really simple things to do or check, to make sure that your driving activities are more pleasant and worry free. You don't have to pop your hood every day before getting behind the wheel to check the condition of the brake fluid reservoir or the oil and transmission dip sticks but it would not be a bad idea to check them out after anyone has had that hood up for any other reason - like adding windshield washer fluid. No tools required and no special training needed to take care of 5 things to make your automotive life just a little less problematic. Now, don't get me started on space saver spares or where the car makers hide fuse boxes these days. |
