It's               not               that               most               women               will               be               able               to               take               a               wrench               and               swap               out               the               old               part               for               a               new               one,               though               some               certainly               can,               but               it's               that               if               your               mechanic               says               you               need,               say,               a               new               starter               motor,               buying               one               from               a               wrecking               yard               can               save               you               anywhere               from               50%               to               80%               of               the               cost               of               a               new               one.

Ask               him               if               he'll               put               it               on               if               you               buy               it.

Starting               motors               are               good               buys               from               wrecking               yards;               if               a               car               has               been               totaled               in               a               rear-end               collision,               chances               are               the               starting               motor               wasn't               affected               by               the               crash,               and               is               perfectly               good.

The               markup               on               replacement               parts               from               dealers               and               auto               supply               stores               can               be               quite               high.

It               was               once               estimated               that               if               you               took               a               $20,000               car               and               built               an               exact               replica               from               parts               bought               over               the               counter,               you'd               be               spending               about               $250,000.

If               you               can               buy               a               serviceable               and               safe               part               from               a               wrecking               yard               for               much               less,               why               not?'
               Some               parts,               unless               you're               an               expert               mechanic,               shouldn't               be               bought               from               wrecking               yards.

Example;               anything               having               to               do               with               brakes,               suspension,               safety               or               steering.

You               want               to               be               sure               these               parts               are               new               and               fully               safe               and               operational.

Another               advantage               to               shopping               at               a               wrecking               yard:               if               they               don't               have               the               part               on               hand,               they               can               use               their               network               to               find               a               yard               nearby               that               has               the               part,               and               get               it               for               you.
               Body               parts,               such               as               a               door               handle               or               a               bumper               where               you               won't               need               to               match               paint,               are               also               safe               to               buy.

Who               cares               what               happened               to               the               rest               of               the               car,               as               long               as               these               parts               are               OK?
               If               you               live               in               winter               areas               where               you               need               snow               tires,               buy               two               wheels               the               exact               same               size               as               your               wheels,               then               mount               the               snow               tires               on               them.

When               it's               time               to               swap               out               your               regular               tires               for               the               snow               tires,               or               vice-versa,               having               them               already               mounted               will               save               you               the               annual               fees               of               re-mounting               the               tires               on               the               rims               and               having               them               re-balanced.

You               can               buy               wheels               (not               tires)               for               about               20%               of               what               you'd               pay               for               new               ones               from               a               dealer.
